Where Happiness Begins

When Jörg Hormes joined the Radeberger group in 1998 as a product developer, no one saw what was coming. Tinkering around on his own time in what was called his “Witches Kitchen” Jörg started experimenting with different tastes that he believed complimented the Wheat beer taste. His superiors thought it a little crazy…but allowed the process.

Trying out different mixes he found at the local store, his daughters who liked a drink with a grapefruit twang, helped him find the solution! The tangy zesty combination of grapefruit and wheat beer was born.

Finding the right process and taste and colour took a long time, but Jörg brought two cases of Schöfferhofer Grapefruit Weizen to a Millennium New Years Eve party in 1999/2000 and the cases were soon empty. The experiment had worked. Everyone loved the zesty tangy mix.

Jörg does not think of himself as an inventor…but invent he did. And now the world gets to experience The Happy! The tingling orange summer beer enjoyed worldwide. Thank you Jörg! And Prost!
